Are you passionate about leadership and government? Are you interested in travel and meeting students from across the country? If so, the 2010 Youth Tour to Washington D.C. is for you! The application process is underway now for the 2010 Indiana Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. Sponsored by Clark County Rural Electric Membership Cooperation (REMC) and Indiana electric cooperatives, this allexpense paid trip from Indianapolis to Washington, D.C., and return is planned for June 10 17. Students compete for the opportunity to participate by submitting an essay. Four students will be selected from applications submitted.
“The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour brings more than 1,300 high school students to Washington, D.C., every year since the 1960s,” said REMC General Manager David A. Vince. “Each year the participants seem to be even more enthusiastic about what they’ve learned, sights they’ve seen and the new friends they’ve made.”
Students whose parents/guardians are members of the REMC are eligible to apply. Applicants must be students who are currently juniors, who will complete their junior year this spring and who plan to enroll for their senior year in the fall of 2010.
Participants learn about electric cooperatives, American history and U.S. government. They attend educational seminars, visit with their representatives in the House and Senate and see the sights in Washington, D.C.
The deadline for submitting applications is Feb. 5.
